They keep doing it.
They don’t stop at the 1st 100 or 200 or 300. They don’t stop when they are not rewarded immediately. They know that they want to do this. They’re energized by this thing. They open their e-mailbox and when they find 10 questions for themselves, they feel that “Yes,today I am goin to contribute 10 other people”. They have an approach which is consistent with their overall goal to be helpful and available. They’re not stalkers. They are not persistent in the sense that, you said a no to a friend request, they keep sending you one, they keep sending you one! To an extent that you think there’s something wrong with these people or the software. You say-“No, I don’t have the time of the day to meet you, I am very busy”. They show up everyday to your office just for a 15 minute meeting. That’s not what i am talking about-that’s not persistent. I am talking about networking as a whole, as a concept- not one particular individual. Networking is not about making sure that the top 10, maybe the richest, the most beautiful, maybe the most successful, the most powerful are in your list- that’s not the goal! The goal of networking is very simply- who are the people that you can assist directly? Who are the people you can contribute to? Who are the lives you can touch? And in the bargain, in the bargain, they’ll help you too. They’ll touch your life too. They’ll probably make you think harder, longer and stronger. Persistence is the key. You’ll start out wanting to network, wanting to be all those things to all those people. P.S. This is the eight part of the series 'Eight Habits of a Highly Effective Networkers'.
