Habit no. 8 is probably common between entrepreneurs, between successful people, between Olympiads, between people who regularly taste the zenith of success.
You don’t go to a party and tell your friend "listen, I would like to be a good networker, could you introduce me to everyone around here?”. No! It doesn’t work like that! You have to be the self starter! You are the reason why that network exists! You’re the one who creates the network! So everytime you’re out its up to you to decide whether you want to know people or not? I am personally not a big fan of meeting new people when I am on a flight or in a railway coach. A lot of people are ummm…, you know. Almost every other book that I’ve read talks about not loosing these opportunities. You know you’re sitting at a cafe, somebody sitting right next to you, waiting for services at the doctor’s, somebody sitting right next to you. These are opportunities, these are people, these are opportunities to network. I am personally a very reserved person when I am flying, I would rather be left alone! I have my book or I have my sleep. But if it works for you, if you are somebody who’s okay with it- why not? There’s no reason why you cannot strike up a conversation, exchange cards, theres no reason why you cannot network while you’re doing nothing. People network on holidays, is it a bad thing? Not at all.. If you’re looking at networking as selling-then “Yes, you’re working!”. If you’re looking at networking as something which is helpful in nature, something that you’re doing to contribute to the larger society, the community at large- that’s not a bad thing at all. But you’ve got to do it yourself. Nobody else can include you in their networking process. That’s not the way it goes. The network is built around you, your contribution, your availability and your determination to make it a successs. P.S.
