Below are the the results of a poll that was run on Linkedin in Feb 2011

I wrote about Five things to do "Post Interview", click here to visit http://www.myeclatcoach.com/2007/04/five-things-to-do-post-interview.html, in which I mentioned that you must thank the interviewer and the office secretary.
The poll results show me that most people would be happy to just send an email but here are some comments from the discussion:

I send hand-written thank you notes to my clients, co-workers, and associates regularly. In this day of electronic communication, you would be amazed at how much positive attention this "Miss Manners" technique generates.

A handwritten thank you note goes a long way and will separate yourself from the competition. Email is quick and convenient, but easy for the recipient to overlook and delete. Going the extra step to mail a handwritten note shows the interviewer they are worth your time and they have your attention - exactly what most people look for in a future employee.

I would wait a few days since the employer is likely conducting other interviews. This can help keep your interactions with them fresh in their minds well after you've left the building. E-mail is simply too easy to ignore and delete. Taking the time to say thank you the old fashioned way also helps you stand out in a crowd. Another benefit is that even if you don't get the job you interview for, you will be remembered when other positions are available with the company. Good manners and courtesy always make you stand out in a crowd. It can give you the edge you need in a competitive market. Good luck!
In my view, its a big YES!
Should you send a "Thank You” card after an interview for a new job?
YES!
p.s. please do not use a handwriting font in the email. that is not the same thing.
