INTERVIEW Qs| What Have You Done To Challenge Your Abilities?

Once the challenge of learning a new job is past, the day-to-day routine can become boring to someone who learns quickly.

Give me an example of what you have done in previous positions to challenge your abilities.

The Coach Answers|

This is an awesome question.
One it allows you to be honest that everyone does get bored by the routine, sooner or later.
Second, it eggs you to boast about your abilities and what you did to enhance them!
Grab this one.

Here are my suggestions
1. Concentrate on the most important ability required for success in the job you applying for.
2. Specify your example. Detail what you did and how it resulted in an improvement.

Examples

> " Last year I decided to add to my repertoire as a manager. I am not from a financial background and wanted to strengthen the knowledge and exposure. I attended the 'Finance for Non- Finance Executives' program. Gained an insight into the financial side of the business and was involved in making the annual statements of the department"

> "I have always been fascinated with using technology to improve work processes. I spent a whole month learning the ins & outs of our main operating software. I then worked with our inhouse IT team to create some simple yet effective macros to replicate the most common tasks"

Cheers!

  2. Dear Harpreet,

May I suggest, that you add a specific example to the reply.

If you learnt a new thing then what was it?
    How was it important?
How did it enhance your abilities?
