Its from Einstein, but its true for me too!
I really have no special talents. Except maybe, I am extremely visual. Thats not a talent, you might say. Its not, its a gift, but by using it, again and again, in varied situations, I have managed to make it a talent, and a very special one at that, but on that some other day.
I loved the image posted above, it just spoke to me and made want to write a post about it.
Passion and Curiosity, each of those is a mighty ally to have as a talent, but marrying the two to get a fabulous off-spring, for that it takes a genius like Einstein.
You can too.
Lets talk about each of them.
First: Passion
Can you feel any of your victories in your bones? Can you taste the best fruit you ever had? Can you exult in the sensations that rocked you that first time? Love someone to death? Want something beyond reason? Would kill for those shoes?
All of this is passion. Life thrives on passion. Life springs from passion.
Passionate people make this world the super sexy living organism that it is. Nature itself is passion. Whats yours? If you know it, have found it, then you can proceed to the next logical question 'What are you doing about it?'
If you haven't, oh boy, are you in for a treat. here's a simple test to find out - 'if money, time, space, family, friends, shame, fame, name, learning, training, career, and everything that you worry about was not a concern, what would you do? What would you want to spend your life doing?'
If that fails, try this one: At your funeral, if people were only allowed to remember you by your passion, what would you want them to say? He/she was passionate about………… (go on, say it out loud)
Too morose? Don't like thinking about your own death? Here's another: You are 70 and sitting with a friend and talking about your life. What would you want to share with him? How many kms you traversed going to work everyday? No, I didn't think so either. So what would it be? The answer might point to your passion.
Once you know your passion, own it, there is nothing sweeter. Life can go on spinning, the earth and the sun can keep dancing about it each other, every spare moment you get from the task of living, you spend on your passion, passionately.
Now, a lot of people might suggest that you do everything passionately. If you can, you are awesome, but it really does get difficult to passionately pee day after day after day after…you get the picture. Keep passion sacred; like a fire that symbolises everything that is pure and true to you. Feed it but don't let it consume you, burnt you are no good.
What's my passion? Fair Q, lets see, innovation, any sexy/new/different/awesome idea, anything that makes me smile and brings pangs of jealousy to fore. That, that is my litmus test. If it makes the big J wake up and growl, it is something I am passionate about.
Is passion a must? No, not really. You can go through life and be good at all that we consider living, success, money, family, studies etc, but a passion can make you better at everything else too! There's the rub on effect. I spent 500 words on passion, and this post is supposed to be about curiosity and the beautiful child they have together.
Like my daughter, I hate incomplete stories, so I will pour all of this out of me today. Curiosity. Simple, exquisite and if executed with chutzpah, savvy and a little bit of fun, can create wonders in every waking (and even some dream like ) moments.
Put simply, it is a yearning to answer the following questions about anything and if it gets chronic then about everything: Why How Who When What Where & Really? I love the last one. Its cynicism with the openness to accept if the answer is truth. Really? Yes. See, it works.
There's more, a lot more but suffice to say, it starts with the WANT to KNOW and EXPLORE. For a scientist it probably becomes a series of experiments, for the rest of us, a series of AH-HA moments.
What about curiosity that killed the cat? Well, everything dies sooner of later. Sorry, was that callous? Ok. Umm, Maybe I should find out how that entire thing started? better yet, Why don't you? Find out and leave it in the comments. lets see if we can get you curious about something.
There's more....Wow, you are still here reading. Makes my day.
So, the beautiful baby that is born from PASSION & CURIOSITY?
let's see, what if someone told you, you will win a million dollars if you walk up a flight of stairs. would you walk up?
Super, so on the second floor, you are told, its all yours, just walk up one more flight of stairs. would you?
Great, so on the third floor, you are told, its all yours, just walk up one more flight of stairs. would you? You get how this is played!
How high would you climb?
Curiosity is what made you climb the first flight, the second and maybe the third. Passion will make you keep climbing it till you get your million dollars. Any wonder then, people who can be passionately curious are worth millions.
Be Awsm!
