Now what are they focused on? They are not focused on creating large networks or large mailing lists.
They’re focused on quality relationships. period.
Successful networkers are focused on quality relationships, that is why they are focused on networking ! They are not talking to somebody and thinking- “how can I make use of this person?” They’re talking to them and thinking- “what can I do to assist this person?” You heard that right ! Let me say that one more time, because this is so important! When they meet somebody, when they’re introduced on the net to somebody, they do no think- “Oh my god! He can do this for me” they can barely contain themselves while saying- “Oh my god! I can do so much for him!” Effective networkers are focused on relationships, they are focused on being available, they are focused on being helpful, they are focused on being nice! The thing about effective networkers is that even if they cannot help you immediately, they are thinking 'maybe I can link him to somebody who can' And that’s as good as helping somebody! Isn’t it? Think about it ? somebody writes to you, and says- “Mr. XYZ I am looking for a job could you assist?” You may have a job- fantastic! Or you may not have a job, what do you do? Instead of saying- “Sorry, would love to help but cant”, or “I’ll put you on a database file” maybe, if you looked at your network a little bit more, you’ll be able to see somebody else who can help them. For that person it is equivalent to offering a job. It is critical to remain focused on a larger goal not just the numbers! They are also very focused on the network and the quality. Although keeping your network to only people associated with your city or industry could be limiting, the focus on the network could bring in results. You could ensure that people in your network are all of a similar interest or bent of mind. You could ensure that everyone in your network respects privacy and personal space, or freedom of speech. whatever filters you may choose to put up, ensure that your focus creates a richer network.
