Regret Minimization Framework - I Influence therefore I am

The above video is something most entrepreneurs will identify with. But what about everyone else.

I think the 'reduce my regrets list when I am 80' is a pretty decent framework to use while making life decisions. The framework itself is minimalist.

I am reminded of David Allen's (Getting Things Done) 100ft- 30000 ft model. Simply put the model suggests, we look at our life from various heights, like a ground level, a building height, top of the mountain view, a helicopter view and maybe a space shuttle view.
At every view the perspective changes, what is important changes and maybe what will last changes. the fears, the goals and the challenges all seem so different at each of those view-points.

Steven Covey suggests something similar with his personal mission statement. He suggests you imagine you are dead and that everyone you love, you work with & the community around you speaks at your funeral. what would you want them to say? now live your life accordingly.

This according to Steven will get you to keep a long-term perspective and help you negotiate the challenges that come up in everyday life.

Value Creation or what is your legacy becomes a stronger motivator than the next promotion or bonus.

You influence a lot of people and their lives.

If I may, I suggest:
1. make a list of these people.
2. detail what influence you want to have on them.
3. let your decisions/long term plans work towards fulfilling that influence.
4. work to increase your list of people every year.
