Ok. Here it is.
With my little exp as a recruiter, let me tell you the things that would make it easier for you to catch my attention (and considering that all other recruiters do the same thing, I guess this would work for them too!)
1. Mention the Job/Job Code/Company you are applying for in the subject.
This makes it easier to sort in the mail and will ensure your resumes goes either into the correct folder or to the correct individual on the team handling that account.
2. Mention a summary of yourself in the mail itself.
Essential things like, exp yrs, education, age, location and last position/company & contact number (and a good time to contact you) are good.
I waste a lot of time opening the word resume attachments and find it extremely irritating that the resume does not even remotely match the requirements we posted on the Job Post.
3. Try and ensure your resume is no longer than a page or max two if there is really so much to mention.
A summary would be great, but please ensure the space is not wasted with words no one cares about.
The summary is for you to connect in the ten seconds your resume gets!
4. Please, please and one more so your do understand, please read the job post. Applying indiscriminately to every job post is not a good idea.
1. Over a period of time, your name will stick in the recruiter’s head and you don’t want it to be remembered as the individual who applies for everything.
2. Ensure you have seen the hotel/establishment website (if provided) and mention that in your cover letter.
Try these & let me know it they start producing results.
Even if you think this is the dream job you have been waiting for, calling the individual to check if they received your resume is not such a great idea. My suggestion, send an sms (short!) mentioning your name and your email address suggesting that you are really eager and believe are the person the recruiter is looking for.
Don’t call to check if they received the sms!!!
